Oh boy we love TOLEDO. Our bestie boys put on incredible performances for their episode of On The Mountain 4. Their surprise acoustic campfire set following the Local Natives set featured a cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven.” It really was a moment we’ll never forget, staying warm by the roaring fire as the snow was falling and our ears were treated to their stunning harmonies.

Lucky for us, we’ve been collaborating with Girlpuppy for a few years now. And she just keeps getting better. The Atlanta artist hung with us on set all weekend long at On The Mountain - singing karaoke, enjoying our breakfast and dinner pop-ups, playing trivia, and dancing the night away during the Saint Hippo DJ set. Her performance of my 2022 most played Spotify song, “I Miss When I Smelled Like You,” was perfect, and we captured it all on camera for her episode. We also filmed Becca and the band perform “Wish” from her debut album When I’m Alone, leaving everyone with a new favorite band as they skied, practiced yoga, and chilled in the hot tubs.

Being with Local Natives for their performance at the base of Hunter Mountain during the taping of our new season of On The Mountain was an out-of-body experience. Against the backdrop of a snowy landscape and skiers weaving through the scene, their unique melodies and delicate harmonies rang beautifully through the crisp mountain air. Despite the cold, the band delivered an utterly flawless performance. We recorded fan favorites from their recent albums, “Just Before the Morning” and “Alpharetta.”

Back at Glen Falls House, our other home base for the ski trip, we taped the band’s intimate live set. The crowd was stoked to hear “NYE” and the band’s 2009 hit, “Airplanes.” Witnessing both the intimate live session and the rock star set at the cozy Catskills resort helped us even more appreciate what makes this band so special.

We love producing music videos, especially animated ones with our favorite artists. Hamilton Leithauser never fails to impress with his mind blowing vocals and songwriting. His new single, "Knockin' Heart," is a perfect example of how true love can be both eternal and all-consuming. His poetic lyrics, paired with animations by our very own Gabby Sibilska, prove to us time and time again that, even in a world of uncertainty, love will always remain present. His upcoming album, This Side of the Island, will be released on March 7 on Glassnote Records.

And just like that, we released our top 100 songs of 2024 with Chappell Roan, Charli xcx, Lizzy McAlpine, half•alive, Suki Waterhouse, Bonny Light Horseman, Waxahatchee, Clairo, ROLE MODEL, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Gracie Abrams, girl in red, and Jelani Aryeh all in our top 100. I have to say, 2024 was hands down the best year for new music in recent memory, maybe even more so than 2017.

As we publish one of our only editorial articles of the year, one of the last remnants from our days as a music blog, we share not only our favorite songs, but also a short letter to the industry with some hopes and simple requests.
